Designed for the British army during the First World War, the trench coat was cut from a waterproof gabardine, with a long line, epaulettes and an adjustable belt. The storm flap, usually on one side only, kept the rain from running inside when the soldier raised his rifle.

Our model keeps the features that make the piece: a double-breasted front, a belt, a topstitched collar that can be turned up, slanted pockets, adjustable cuffs and the storm flap.

Historically worn to mid-calf, the trench coat is now usually cut above the knee; the length is decided with your adviser.

The trench coat is traditionally cut from a heavy cotton twill. A lighter cotton is still possible, at the cost of a cloth more prone to creasing; a blend with polyester brings durability and better water resistance. The trade-off depends on whether you are looking first for a rain garment or for a mid-season one.

It is cut to your measurements, taken at your appointment in store.
