The black overcoat in its plainest form: a single-breasted front, notch lapels, jetted pockets, a jetted breast pocket, knee length.

The notch lapel appeared in England in the early 19th century and quickly became the standard for everyday coats and jackets; it has remained so. Combined with a single-breasted front, it gives the town overcoat par excellence, the one that is worn over a suit without ever competing with it.

One detail is still settled at the appointment: the sleeve buttons. The decorative buttonhole is the most common today, not least because it makes altering a sleeve length easier; the working buttonhole, inherited from the Savile Row surgeon’s cuff, became a mark of good making there. The plain sleeve end, with no buttons at all, is nonetheless the oldest of the three.

Our overcoats are cut from heavy cloths, from 500 grams upwards, mainly in wool.

Cut to your measurements, it goes into production after your appointment in store.
